Dr. Bynum received a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and a
medical degree from the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine,
following which he did postgraduate training in Internal Medicine and
Pulmonary Disease. He then joined the faculty of the University of
Texas Medical School in Dallas, where he practiced, taught, and
conducted research for 8 years.
He entered the pharmaceutical industry as a Medical Director at Syntex
Research and Laboratories, where he worked for 12 years conducting
clinical trials in a variety of therapeutic areas. During this time,
he was a member of the teaching faculty of the University of California
at San Francisco School of Medicine. Shortly after Syntex was acquired
by Hoffman-LaRoche, Dr. Bynum left the company and started his own consulting
firm, Pacific Research Associates. For the next 5 years, he and his
associates worked with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device
companies as a Contract Research Organization developing new products in
all phases of clinical research. The company was acquired by ICON Clinical
Research, where Dr. Bynum continues his consulting work within the ICON
Development Solutions division. His most extensive experience has been in
the fields of analgesic and anti-inflammatory therapy. He is board certified
in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease and is a member of the American Pain
Society.
